Self-Employment: How To Be Your Own Boss

How do you become your own boss? How do you maintain being your own boss? These are questions that people are always curious about. What I will start off by saying is: DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB! A lot of people give advice to people that in order to be your own boss you cant work for somebody else. While in a sense that is true, you can not start a new business venture without money. You need to have some type of money invested in order to start and open a business. The only way to do that is work, unless you want to go through all of the proper channels to get people to invest in your business..and that could take time. So the quickest way to invest in yourself is to continue working and make a game plan on how you will become your own boss. Everything takes time; its not just something that happens over night, its a process.

Now if you are in a toxic work environment and feel you have to go now that is another story, because your mindset and livelihood is at stake. You have to do what makes you happy, but you also have to be smart about it. For example, If you wanted a new job you wouldn’t just up and quit right? You would apply for jobs and have another one set up before you let one go. The same thing applies to staring your own business.

In order to be your own boss you have to have the confidence to do so and you have to have your team. Depending on the business you can manage on your own for a little while, but you cannot be a boss without employees. For example, I am a self-published author. I order my shipment of books myself, take and ship orders, send emails out for vending events and podcast interviews. While this seems like a short list there is a lot that goes into the day to day operations. Eventually I will get enough money to grow a team, but for right now I have to balance everything and continue to grow my business.
